Ethical, Experienced Support for Intended Parents

Families come to Children’s House International with one shared dream: the hope of welcoming a child into their family. For some families, adoption is the right path. For others, fertility treatment or surrogacy may be the best option.

That is why Children’s House International now offers a compassionate International Surrogacy Consulting Program for intended parents who are exploring fertility and surrogacy options abroad.

With more than 50 years of experience helping families navigate international processes, Children’s House International understands the importance of trusted guidance, clear communication, ethical practices, and personal support. Our team has decades of experience assisting families with international travel, lodging, transportation, documentation, legal coordination, country-specific procedures, and family-building journeys across borders.

Through our Surrogacy Consulting Program, we help intended parents move forward with confidence, clarity, and care.

About CHI’s Surrogacy Consulting Program

Children’s House International began in 1975 with a mission to bring children and families together through international adoption. Today, we continue that mission by supporting families through additional family-building options, including international surrogacy consulting.

CHI is a nonprofit agency based in the United States. Our staff is committed to providing families with thoughtful, experienced, and compassionate guidance as they pursue their dream of having a child.

International surrogacy can feel overwhelming. Intended parents may have questions about medical appointments, legal documents, travel, accommodations, timelines, costs, and what to expect in another country. CHI helps families understand the process, prepare for each step, and connect with trusted international associates who can assist them throughout their journey.

You do not have to go through this alone.

What CHI Does for Intended Parents

CHI’s Surrogacy Consulting Program works with intended parents who are considering fertility and surrogacy options in countries where the legal structure and overall costs may be more favorable than in the United States.
We are currently focused primarily on the Eastern European country of Georgia, which has become a well-known destination for international surrogacy and fertility services.

Through our program, CHI helps intended parents by:

Coordinating communication between intended parents and our trusted international associates.
Helping families understand available surrogacy and fertility options.
Assisting with travel preparation, lodging, transportation, and appointment planning.
Helping intended parents understand the general timeline and steps involved.
Providing guidance as families gather paperwork and prepare for the process.
Connecting families with experienced clinics, physicians, and international professionals.
Supporting families as they move through the medical, travel, and post-birth process.

The medical care is handled by licensed physicians, fertility specialists, and clinics. Legal documents and country-specific procedures are handled by appropriate professionals and in-country associates. CHI’s role is to help intended parents understand the process, stay organized, and receive support as they move forward.

International Surrogacy in Georgia

Georgia is one of the countries where CHI’s Surrogacy Consulting Program is currently focused. Intended parents may choose Georgia because of its medical options, affordability, experienced clinics, and established surrogacy process.

For many families, surrogacy in Georgia may include:

Fertility testing and medical review.
Egg donor selection, if needed.
Embryo creation.
Embryo transfer.
Surrogate matching.
Pregnancy monitoring.
Birth planning.
Legal and post-birth documentation.
Travel and return-home preparation.

Because international surrogacy involves medical, legal, and immigration-related steps, intended parents should always rely on licensed medical professionals, qualified legal professionals, and appropriate government authorities for final guidance. CHI helps families stay informed, organized, and supported throughout the process.

NOTE: We are working to add other options and countries soon.

The CHI Surrogacy Consulting Process

Step 1: Schedule a No-Obligation Consultation

The first step is a no-obligation video call with Lisa Anderson, International Specialist with Children’s House International. During this call, Lisa will listen to your family’s goals, answer general questions, and help you understand whether international surrogacy may be a good option for you.

Your personal information is kept confidential.

Step 2: Meet with CHI and Our International Associates

The next step is a no-obligation video meeting with CHI and our international associates. During this call, you can learn more about available options, approximate costs, timelines, medical requirements, and the steps involved.

This is also the time to ask questions and receive a clearer understanding of what your journey may look like.

Step 3: Medical Review and Eligibility

The medical team may request specific test results and records to determine whether you qualify for the program and how you can best be served.

Once approved, your process may include donor selection if needed, embryo creation, surrogate matching, embryo transfer, and pregnancy monitoring.

Step 4: Pregnancy and Ongoing Updates

Throughout the pregnancy, intended parents may receive medical updates, sonograms, and other information from the clinic and international team. CHI remains available to help you understand the process and stay connected with the appropriate professionals.

Step 5: Birth and Legal Documentation

After your baby is born, the in-country team assists with the required legal documents and post-birth formalities. Families remain in Georgia while the necessary documents are completed and travel arrangements are finalized.

Step 6: Bring Your Baby Home

Once the required documentation and travel approvals are completed, intended parents can return home with their child.

With CHI’s Surrogacy Consulting Program, you are supported by a team of experienced professionals who understand the emotional, medical, legal, and international details involved in welcoming a child through surrogacy.

Frequently Asked Questions

There is no long waiting period to begin once you are medically eligible and have completed the required paperwork and testing. On average, the full international surrogacy process may take approximately 18 to 24 months, although timelines can vary based on medical factors, embryo creation, surrogate matching, pregnancy, legal documentation, and travel requirements.

The cost of international surrogacy depends on each family’s specific needs, medical plan, donor requirements, legal process, and travel expenses. International surrogacy is often significantly less expensive than surrogacy in the United States and may cost approximately 40% less than a comparable U.S. surrogacy journey.

Each family receives information tailored to their specific situation.

The initial trip to Georgia is typically about four business days. In many cases, both intended parents travel to sign documents and provide biological samples.

At the time of the baby’s birth, families should plan to remain in Georgia for approximately four weeks while post-birth documents, legal formalities, and travel arrangements are completed. This timeline may vary depending on individual circumstances, government processing times, and current requirements.

CHI and our associates do their best to help intended parents plan travel around the expected birth. Many families hope to be present when their child is born. However, birth timing is never completely predictable, and travel plans should remain flexible.
In many surrogacy arrangements in Georgia, the intended parents may be listed on the baby’s birth certificate. Because laws and procedures can change, all legal details should be confirmed with qualified legal professionals and the appropriate government authorities before beginning the process.

For U.S. intended parents, the child’s citizenship and passport process may depend on several factors, including biological relationship, U.S. immigration law, documentation, and government requirements at the time of birth. In many cases, families complete passport and citizenship-related steps through the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia.

CHI and our associates can help families understand the general process, but citizenship and immigration questions should always be confirmed with qualified immigration counsel and the appropriate embassy or government authority.

Some intended parents use their own eggs and sperm, while others may need an egg donor. The medical team will help determine the best option based on your test results, medical history, and family-building goals.

International surrogacy involves many moving parts: medical care, legal documents, travel, appointments, communication across time zones, transportation, accommodations, and post-birth procedures.

CHI helps intended parents feel less overwhelmed by providing guidance, coordination, and experienced support throughout the journey.
