Travel and Time Frame
Travel
Three trips are required or an extended stay in country. The first trip is soon after referral acceptance. A one month “bonding period” is required. Both parents must travel for this. It is possible that after two to three weeks, one can return home. The second trip is to attend the court hearing, which is approximately six months later. The third trip is one to two months after court for the child’s visa appointment at the U.S. Embassy. The second and third trips are for one to two weeks.Time Frame
The average time between referral and picking up the child is about 8-10 months. The entire adoption process can take about 16 to 24 months.
