Two Boys, One Birthright

This man was born in the United States in the 1970′s.  He was born to an educated and loving family.  He was born with a cleft lip and palate.  While his family was sad, overwhelmed and worried, they felt like the luckiest people on earth to have a son!  He received the best care available from one of the top Children’s Clinics in the country.  He grew and went to school.  He played football and was a star.  He had friends, went to University and completed an advanced degree.  He got married and had four beautiful children.  He is also an executive at one of the top companies in our country.

This boy was born in 2001 in an Asian country.  We can suppose he was born to a loving family.  He was also born with a cleft lip and palate.  His family was likely sad, overwhelmed and worried. They choose to abandon him when he was 7 days old.  He received surgery to correct his cleft lip and palate when he was a year old.  He has grown, met all the normal milestones and attends school.  He enjoys track and field and drawing.  He does not have many friends because he has trouble pronouncing words clearly because he has never received any speech therapy   He is shy because of this.  He knows at his age, with the issues he perceives as grave he may never have a family of his own.

So much is asked of children in order for them to have what most of the world takes for granted as a birthright. They wait, wait, wait and watch other children have their turn to be adopted, but never themselves.  Please take a minute and watch his video and ponder on just how hard it must be to live as an orphan.  Ponder how one boy, in one country, can grow up in a secure and loving home and be success.  Ponder what the future holds for this boy if he is not adopted.

SHILOH, male, DOB 8/2001 SN repaired cleft lip and palate. Video link http://youtu.be/Se1pFRTegDk

Oh Shiloh! His November 2012 video spotlight has him overwhelmed. He tries so hard to be brave but the tears fall as ALL the cameras and attention are focused squarely on HIM. This is his chance to showcase himself and SPEAK and show how worthy he is to have a family….and it was just too much pressure for a boy of 11 years old who has suffered all his life from speech difficulties due to his repaired cleft palate. Surely he has been ridiculed and teased before. Can you imagine? Shiloh has been waiting a very long time for a family. He likes drawing and especially likes to create cartoons. He enjoys playing hide and seek with his friends and in active games like other boys his age. The difference is boys his age should have a family and he doesn’t.

Please share this information about Shiloh so we can find his family!  If you might be Shiloh’s family please email Heidi at heidigoestochina@msn.com
